Dear Members and Friends of First Baptist Church,
God is on His throne, we are in His hands, and He has a purpose for everything He allows. I would encourage you to read an article I wrote about how to biblically think through these trying times: https://religiousaffections.org/articles/articles-on-christian-living/the-coronavirus-and-the-christian/.
I have spoken with Pastor Hockema and our deacons, and we would encourage you to read what follows below for information on how our church will handle the coronavirus situation.
Out of concern of not spreading something to the physically vulnerable in our church and thus to our community as a whole, services for this week are cancelled, both on Wednesday, March 18, and Sunday, March 22.
We will make announcements concerning our schedule, week by week. We will email an update each week, and you can also find this message as a public statement by the church on the church website, Facebook page, or Twitter.

As you know, the primary elections took place in our building on Tuesday, March 17. There were over 500 voters who turned out and accessed our building. The election staff has been commendable in their extra precautions and practices for sanitation. We ourselves will also be giving our fellowship hall, hallways, and bathroom facilities an extra cleaning. The rest of the building has been closed off to the election staff and voters, but we will give these areas extra cleaning attention as well.
If you would like to volunteer to help with the extra cleaning, please let us know.
For this coming Sunday, March 22, please tune in to Facebook Live at 11:00 AM. While it will not be a full service to view, I hope to offer a substantive message from God’s Word that speaks directly to this situation and how we can faithfully serve God as a church in the days ahead. If you are unable to view the video at 11:00 AM, it will remain as a recorded video in the video section of our Facebook page.

Our church is financially prepared for times like these, but we do not want to discourage our regular giving. Our deacons, treasurer, and assistant treasurer will be able to collect, record, and deposit any checks in a timely manner. Please use the following address:
First Baptist Church
5304 Charles St
Rockford, IL 61108
We have a number of elderly folks in our church, and they are fairly independent or have family to assist them. Nonetheless, whether it be assistance with groceries or other necessities, we want to be ready to help each other during this time.
If you would like to be on call to help with any assistance they might need, please let us know.
As previously mentioned, we will make updates each week.
“Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul” (3 John 2 ESV).
Praying for you all,
Pastor David Huffstutler
